Real Relief from Back Pain

Such reads the cover of the June 2017 issue of Consumer Reports. crback-painI love Consumer Reports, and it’s a great article, but “New” evidence about “Alternative” Medicine? There’s nothing new about the “Kinder, Gentler Therapy Plan”  they recommend:

  • Yoga and Tai Chi exercises
  • Spinal Manipulation and Manual Therapies
  • Oriental Medicine.

At least in Seattle, (and I thought everywhere else) most of us have our Chiropractors and Acupuncturists phone numbers programed into our phones and we have Yoga or Tai Chi Class schedules on our calendars.  Don’t we? Clearly I am as wrong about this as I was about a recent presidential election. If Consumer Reports is just getting the memo, there still must be an audience who doesn’t know there are safe and effective alternatives to drugs and surgery. In fact, they aren’t really “alternative.” The “new” word is “complementary.”

Here’s a checklist for you:

  • I spend more time on the yoga mat (or gym, or tai chi studio, or walking around the lake) than at doctor’s appointments
  • I spend more money on complementary care (Chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, PT) than on prescription medicine
  • I appreciate my body’s ability to heal itself and have confidence that I can access it.
  • I associate words like “freedom” and “gratitude” with my body.

I hope you can answer yes to most of these. If not, I suggest you look for a new perspective. Read the Consumer Reports article. Call me. Today. It’s never too late.

Best,

Cathy
